Drunk driver sent to prison

BEAUFORT, N.C. - A man in Carteret County is being sent to prison for multiple DWI arrests.

66-year-old Richard Dean Allen of La Grange pleaded guilty to habitual impaired driving.

Allen was arrested by Newport Police in September of 2012 for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.13, and he was also under the influence of prescription psychotropic drugs.

He has two prior DWI convictions in Lenoir county in 2004 and 2006, and he has one conviction in Craven County in 2006.

Allen was sentenced to a minimum of 12 months in prison and a maximum of 24 months. He was also ordered to undergo any drug and alcohol treatment available to him in prison.
