More than $834K worth of pot seized from Durham home

DURHAM, N.C. -

More than 30 pounds of pot, 158 marijuana plants and more than $40,000 were seized during a raid Thursday night at a home in north Durham.

Deputies served a search warrant for a home on Goodwin Road at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The house belongs to Robert Lewis Carden Jr., 31.

When deputies arrived, Carden fled from authorities, but was quickly captured. During Thursday night's raid, deputies seized 158 marijuana plants and 31 pounds of pot from Carden's home.

Authorities also seized a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol and several items used in the manufacture of marijuana including artificial sunlight lamps, two 500-gallon water tanks, humidifiers and carbon dioxide tanks.

The street value of the drugs seized is estimated to be worth more than $834,000.

Carden was arrested Friday on charges of manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing marijuana, marijuana trafficking as wells as other drug-related charges.

Carden was booked in the Durham County Jail and was released on a $100,000 bond Friday morning.
