East Carteret takes control of the 1A Coastal Plains Conference

BAYBORO, N.C. -

In the postseason last year East Carteret and Pamlico County met in the Regional Semi-Finals. The Mariners knocked off the Hurricanes in convincing fashion that night and they really haven't looked back since. On Friday the two schools met for the first time since and what a game it was.

The game was tied at 53 after the 3rd Quarter and Pamlico even led with under a minute to go. On a wild sequence to end the game Trevor Willis hit the go ahead jumper for East Carteret which eventually turned out to be the game winner. Pamlico got a couple of looks in the final seconds but it was not to be. East Carteret will remain the number one team at the 1A level as they improve to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in conference. The Mariners are now all by themselves at the top of the Coastal Plains Conference.

In Greenville we had a couple of games in the Eastern Carolina 3A/4A Conference. JH Rose, led by Cornell Powell, beat Southern Wayne 61-48. Powell had 22 points and the Rampants remain atop the ECC.

At Conley the Vikings made a big comeback but could not scratch out a victory against New Bern. The Bears won 49-48.
