Woman defends herself, Deputies arrest man who broke in

GOLDSBORO, N.C. - A burglar attempting to steal from an elderly woman is arrested. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office announces the arrest of 32-year-old Joseph Nick Newsome. Investigators say he entered a home on West New Hope Road in Goldsboro.

It happened Friday night. Newsome was confronted by a woman who deputies say successfully defended her home. He got away before deputies arrived.

A search of the area ensued and was arrested sometime after. Newsome was charged with 1st degree burglary. He was also served other outstanding warrants and was placed under a $164,000 bond. Newsome is awaiting first appearance.
