Forsyth County elections director fired

Posted: Updated:
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -

The Forsyth County elections director is out of a job after the state director fired him, citing errors in a vote recount in Tobaccoville.

The Winston-Salem Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1e21E8h) the director of the N.C. Board of Elections sent a nine-page letter to members of the Forsyth County Board of Elections to explain why she fired county director Rob Coffman.

State Director Kim Strach says in the letter that Coffman showed a disregard for ensuring an accurate result in the recounting of votes for a seat on the Tobaccoville Village Council in November. She writes Coffman didn't provide "complete and truthful" responses when the state conducted an inquiry.

Coffman told the Associated Press on Saturday he learned of his firing in an email Friday evening. He says he's looking into his options.
