Pedestrian hit, killed near Clayton

CLAYTON, N.C. -

A 25-year-old Smithfield man is dead after troopers say he was hit by a car on US-70 Sunday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol says Thomas David Dudley IV, 25, was walking along US-70 near Clayton around 2:54 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by a car traveling east.

Troopers say Dudley was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation and no charges have been filed.
