Bluffton Celebrates MLK

Posted: Updated:
BLUFFTON, S.C. -

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration has become a cant miss event in Bluffton.

From local artists and students performing, to most in the town turning out for the annual parade, its a time for many to reflect on the legacy of the civil rights leader. For Sharon Brown, its a time to remember the struggle that still continues for so many.

"We know that there is still a different balance here between races, but every year, each year it becomes bigger, better in our diverse community and we see all races come together on this very special and important day and come together as one."

Longtime resident, Brown describes herself as a "community parent," not just because she works at Bluffton High but because she believes 'it takes a village to raise a child.' And in her village its important to spread Dr. King's message.

"Its important that they know that this didn't just come about one day, poof, it came about because a man fought for freedom for us to get to the point we are at today."
