RALEIGH, N.C. -

A man charged with the murder of a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper pleaded guilty Wednesday to multiple charges related to the 2012 high-speed chase and resulting death.

Christopher McCoy Rodgers, 41, pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of kidnapping, and one count each of burglary and robbery.

A murder charge against Rogers is expected to be resolved next week, Wake County Assistant District Attorney Howard Cummings said.

Cummings said Rogers forced his way into a woman's home on Sept. 8, 2012, and then proceeded to restrain her and her 21-month-old child, lock them in a room and steal the woman's ATM card.

The woman was able to free herself and go to a friend's house where she called police.

Police were then alerted to be on the lookout for Rodgers' vehicle, which was spotted by a Raleigh Police officer. The officer began following the vehicle until reaching the Highway 96 Exit on U.S. 64, where the Wake County Sheriff's Office took over pursuing the suspect.

Authorities attempted to stop Rodgers on U.S. 64 East near Hodge Road, but he failed to stop and headed into Nash County.

The State Highway Patrol said Trooper Gene DeMuth was struck and killed while trying to deploy stop sticks on U.S. 264 in order to stop the car.

The car drove on for a short distance before being stopped by authorities.
