Metro police padlocked two Hermitage businesses late Wednesday afternoon for selling liquid marijuana.
Authorities responded to the First Discount Tobacco and Beer, located at 3916 Lebanon Pike, and Dolphin Market Discount and Beer, located at 4808 Lebanon Pike, around 4 p.m.
Both markets have been declared public nuisances and remain closed indefinitely.
Police said the liquid synthetic drug was sold to customers just minutes before police closed down the stores and that the two stores have been under investigation since December.
Authorities said the synthetic drug, which was being sold for $40 per bottle, can be used in electronic cigarettes and gives users a similar high as marijuana.
Store owners Ebrahim Fahim, Maged Youssef Milkhail and Alaa Keliney are expected to appear in court Friday morning.
Fahim and Milkhail also face a potential contempt of court violation after they admitted to selling synthetic marijuana packets in July 2012.
