BAYBORO, N.C. - Officials in Pamlico County are warning customers of a scam currently making the rounds.

The Pamlico County Sheriff's Office says individuals and businesses in and around Oriental are receiving scam calls about Duke Power shutting off their power within the hour.

Callers are telling customers to buy prepaid cards, then call back with the information on the card.

Officials say if you think you're being targeted, call police and the utility company directly.
