BEAUFORT, N.C. - A Beaufort man has been charged with breaking and entering and impersonating a police officer.

Police say 37-year-old Just Ryan Laughton is accused of breaking into a home on Ronnie Road in Beaufort.

The homeowner told officers he was asleep when he heard a knock on the door. That's when Laughton, allegedly, said he was an ATF agent there looking for the victim's sister. Laughton then demanded the victim him drive him to another location. When they happened upon blue light ahead on NC Hwy 101, Laughton demanded the victim stop the car and fled the scene.

Laughton was later taken into custody at his residence. He was placed under a $3,500 secure bond.
