Eastern Carolina has a "snow day"

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The roads around eastern Carolina have been quite a challenge Wednesday.

Mother Nature kept most folks home from work and the kids home from school.

Like most of eastern Carolina, it was a snow day in Pitt County and 9 On Your Side spent part of the day searching out the fun in Greenville.

There was no trouble finding a good time today.

It kicked off with a snowball fight with ECU students and continued at a sledding hot spot on the corner of Fifth and Reade, known as “the bowl.”

"I just remember my memories and my first snows and how exciting it was,” said Jeremy Cook, who brought the family sledding. “So I know what they're feeling and it makes me happy too.”

From the Cook family's plastic sleds to the Wigent Family’s Bicycle Snow Machine, there was even a

“This is the first time this year, but probably the third time overall,” said Don Wigent, who took the family sledding courtesy of his bicycle snow machine. “It's come out about once every other year and gotten a couple runs down the hill with the kids."

There was even a cardboard box.

"It was either this or a plastic bag, trash bag," said Mia Kota and Skyler Niedzeila.

Sledding down the bowl shaped hill brings out the best laughs, smiles and memories.

"He was off school yesterday, but it wasn't the same without the snow. Now it's official he has a real snow day," said Wigent.

And the snow day continues to a snow night.

"We'll probably try to make some snow cream,” said Cook. “We have some desserts to make at home so we can get warm after this and enjoy some treats. Hot chocolate."
