JACKSONVILLE, N.C. - Troopers in Onslow County say alcohol is to blame for a weekend crash that killed one Marine.

It happened Saturday around 12:45 a.m. about a mile south of Jacksonville at the intersection of Canady Road and Blue Creek Road.

Troopers say 21-year-old Cherry Point Marine Octavius Thompson ran a stop sign at the intersection, ran off the road and hit a concrete barrier going 50 miles per hour.

Another Marine, 21-year-old David Moore Jr was riding in the backseat and died in that crash.

Troopers say Thompson is charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving and failure to stop at a stop sign.

At last check, he was still in the hospital.
