Military dad surprises daughter at Kinston school

Posted: Updated:
KINSTON, N.C. - It was a special morning for a 2nd grader in Lenior County Monday.

Abby Jones was sitting in her classroom listening to a presentation on how news photojournalist do their jobs when she received a big surprise.

Apache Specialist Casey Jones just wrapped his fourth deployment. He got back into town this weekend after being deployed for 9 months, but kept his return secret to surprise his daughter in her classroom.

Abby attends Savannah Contentnea School.

Afterwards they headed right to get some frozen yogurt.

Abby says she's looking forward to showing her dad the frozen yogurt machines, something Jones says they don't have in Afghanistan

"I get to show him how to do it and get some ice cream with him,” said Abby Jones, daughter.

"As she is getting older its harder for them as kids because it seems like I am gone more than I am home,” said Casey Jones, who just got home from Afghanistan.

Specialist Jones will be getting to spend more time at home this time. He will be leaving the military in November and will begin searching for an aviation career in North Carolina.
