Stacy man charged after down east bank scare

BEAUFORT, N.C. - A Stacy man is accused of going armed to the terror of the public.

It happened this morning when deputies responded to the Wells Fargo bank in Sea Level just before 9 a.m.

40-year-old Shannon Allen Whisnant is accused of circling the parking log and pulling on the bank doors in an attempt to gain entry while armed with a handgun.

One employee  called 911 while another triggered the silent alarm.

Whisnant was arrested at the scene without incident and seized a 38 caliber revolver handgun. Whisnant was charged with “Going Armed to the Terror of the Public” and placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $2,500 bond.

He was later released to Carteret General Hospital for unspecified medical reasons.
