Elderly Columbia Woman Killed in Crash

COLUMBIA -- An elderly woman dies in a car crash, while her husband remains in critical condition.

Franklin Echols, 71, of Foxworth and his wife Betress Echols, 68, were traveling northbound on Highway 13 Tuesday afternoon.  Tony Moree, 36, of Columbia was traveling south in a Pearl River Vally Electric service truck when they collided.

Betress Echols was pronounced dead on the scene.  Franklin Echols was transported by ambulance to Forrest General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.  Moree was taken by personal vehicle to Marion General with minor injuries.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of crash.
