Mount Carmel man arrested for threatening to kill girlfriend with box cutters

A Mount Carmel man was arrested Thursday after he reportedly threatened to kill his girlfriend with box cutters.

According to a Church Hill Department of Public Safety news release, officers were called to 222 Grandview St., in reference to an assault where James Stallard, 37, allegedly became angry with his girlfriend while watching a movie and threatened to kill her, as well as her dogs, with box cutters.

The woman told officers when Stallard refused to leave the room, she was able to escape the home to run to her neighbor’s to call 911.

Stallard told police he had the box cutters because he was going to work on the house and also said that he blacked out and did not remember what had happened.

He was charged with aggravated assault and was taken to Hawkins County Jail.

According to the release, this was Stallard’s second arrest for aggravated assault in three weeks.
