Fast-moving burst of snow falls across eastern Carolina

Posted: Updated:

Areas of eastern Carolina saw a quick burst of snow overnight into Friday morning.

The batch of moisture, caused by a fast-moving upper level disturbance, moved through, bringing snow into the early morning hours.  With lows around the freezing mark of 32, the heavier bands of snowfall caused some accumulation. Slick spots are expected on area roadways, bridges, and overpasses.

Snowfall totals range anywhere from just a light coating to two inches in portion of our southern/eastern counties. Others saw snow and sleet for a brief while before capping off quickly and not allowing any accumulation.

Here are some of the latest snowfall estimates:

New Bern= 1.5"

Morehead City=.2"

Swan Quarter= 1.3"

Elizabeth City=1.5"

Looking into today: The moisture moved out quickly during the overnight hours and that will allow us to see a mix of clouds and sunshine during the afternoon.  Expect seasonable temperatures with afternoon highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s with light winds.
