HOPE MILLS, N.C. -

One person was killed and four others were injured in three-vehicle crash in Hope Mills Thursday evening.

Hope Mills Police said the crash happened on Hope Mills Road between Camden and George Owen roads.

Officers said a GMC Envoy, driven by 33-year-old Nicole Morris, was traveling south on Hope Mills Road when it collided with a Ford Escape driven by 49-year-old Stephen Wade Mercer.

Morris over-corrected to the left and lost control of the vehicle. Morris' vehicle overturned and rolled over several times before rolling on top of a Mazda Protege driven by 19-year-old Guillermo Gonzalez.

Gonzalez was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Hospital, but died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Morris was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries and is in the intensive care unit. Three children who were riding in Morris' vehicle were also taken to the hospital where they were treated and released. The children were ages 11, 3 and 2. The two younger children were properly secured in their child safety seats.

The third driver, Mercer, did not report any injuries at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation at this time and authorities have not determined possible charges or if speed or alcohol were factors.
