Two dogs removed from Conway home after police found them tied to a tree without food

Posted: Updated:

Horry County Police arrested Keith Chestnut, 50, from Conway and charged him with ill treatment of animals. Police were called to the 800 block of Daisy Lane for a welfare check on dogs. They were advised several dogs were tied to trees on the property, had no shelter and no food or water. When they arrived they found two dogs on the property tied up. One blue pit male, tied to a tree, didn't have shelter or water, and an empty food bowl, according to the police report.

The second dog, also a blue pit bull, was found tied to a tree. It had a dog house that was turned over and no food or water was seen.

Police say that particular location has a history of calls.

Police also noted a couch, love seat, and mattress piled up outside near the front porch, making this unit think the dogs were possibly abandoned and no one was there to take care of them.

The dogs were removed and taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center.

Police later identified Chestnut as the owner of the dogs and subsequently charged him. At the time of the article, he was in J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
