JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Authorities say four people have been killed after a car going almost 100 mph ran a red light and slammed into an SUV in Jacksonville.

Troopers say an infant in a car seat was the only survivor of the wreck about 5 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 258 and state Highway 53.

The Highway Patrol says witnesses saw a Hyundai driving at close to 100 mph and weaving through traffic before it entered the intersection in the wrong lanes of NC 53.

Troopers say the car slammed into the side of an SUV. All three people in the Hyundai and the driver of the SUV died. An infant in the SUV survived.

Investigators are trying to figure out why the Hyundai was going so fast.
