UPDATE: Guyton Boy's Shooting Appears to be Accidental

UPDATE 2/24/14 4:15 p.m.

An autopsy performed on Landry Oliver Monday indicates that the shooting was accidental.

Oliver died from one gunshot wound to the head, spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.

Charges are not expected at this time but Ehsanipoor says the case remains under investigation.


Sheriff's Office spokesman David Ehsanipoor says Landry Oliver has died at Memorial University Medical Center.

An autopsy will be conducted at the GBI Crime Lab on Monday.


UPDATE: Police have identified the child who was shot in Effingham County Thursday night.  They tell us, 9-year-old Landry Oliver of Guyton is on life-support after being shot at a home on Zittrouer Road.  The boy was airlifted to Memorial Hospital.  Foul play is not suspected.


The Effingham County Sheriff's Office says a 9-year-old boy remains hospitalized this morning after he was involved in a shooting on Thursday night.

"A nine year old child was air lifted to Memorial Health University Medical Center with life threatening injuries," says Sheriff's spokesman David Ehsanipoor.

The department adds that is appears to be an isolated incident and there are no initial signs of foul play at this time. 

The case remains under investigation.  


The Effingham County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that sent a nine-year-old boy to the hospital Thursday night.

News 3 is told that the call came in just after 7 p.m. night near Zittrouer and Midland Roads.

The boy was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center with serious injuries, said Sheriff's Spokesman David Ehsanipoor. This appears to be an isolated incident and there are no initial signs of foul play at this time.

The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
