Onslow Co. sexual assault suspect arrested on 58 counts

Posted: Updated:

An Onslow County man is in jail on 58 counts of sexual abuse.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office arrested him after they say he raped and sexually abused several children. Now federal law enforcement authorities are involved.

People who know 53-year-old Bruce Green say he seemed like a friendly guy, always willing to help out his fellow neighbor.

"He would offer to like mow our yard and stuff, he just seemed normal," said one of Bruce Green's neighbors, anonymously.

But his list of criminal charges paints a different picture: that of a child molester, who even forced himself on his own relatives.

Green's neighbors didn't want to go on-camera, but they have a hard time believing the charges.

Arrest warrants say Green repeatedly raped a 15-year-old relative and forced himself on another girl.

"He was a good neighbor. And I spoke to him, waved to him, and his kids played with our kids, so it's a bit of a surprise," said one of Green's neighbors.

Green made his first court appearance in Jacksonville on Friday. He's charged with dozens of counts of rape, incest, child abuse, indecent liberties with a child, and other sex crimes.

"Pretty scared that somebody that close could easily get to my children and I don't know it," said one of Green's neighbors.

The Onslow County sheriff wouldn't say where the alleged abuse happened or for how long, but officials from Camp Lejeune say the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, or NCIS, is involved because some of the alleged abuse happened at military installations other than Camp Lejeune.

Neighbors say Green was a stay-at-home dad with three or four kids whose wife is a Navy doctor.

The three-week investigation began when one of the victims revealed information about the sexual assaults, leading to the discovery of other victims.

Green is now in jail on a $5.4 million secure bond.

Green has a temporary lawyer who says his client has another court appearance on Monday to discuss whether he needs a court appointed attorney or if he's willing to hire his own.
