JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

A Greeneville man who crashed on Interstate 26 Thursday was charged with numerous drug and weapons charges after a police officer stopped to help him.

The Johnson City police investigator who was in plainclothes realized Anthony Williams, 27, Greeneville, was wanted by the Kingsport Police Department for aggravated robbery.

Police tried to arrest Williams but he struggled, even attempting to disarm the plainclothes officer.

An off-duty deputy with the Washington County Sheriff's Office stopped to help.

Williams was eventually handcuffed.

Police found two loaded guns and a "large amount of narcotics" on Williams. Another loaded gun and more drugs were found in his vehicle.

He was charged with aggravated assault, three counts of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, three counts of possession of a handgun during the commission of a dangerous felony, possession of crack cocaine, hydrocodone and marijuana (all with intent to distribute) and resisting and evading arrest.

Williams was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.

He was arraigned Friday morning in Sessions Court.
