Arizona bill would allow businesses to refuse service to gays

Posted: Updated:
Arizona is on a roll creating new jobs and attracting new business.

But Barry Broome with the Greater Phx Economic Council says all the progress Valley business leaders have made recently could come to an abrupt stop.

Because of this, SB 1062, the latest controversial bill, approved by the state legislature and awaiting the governor's signature.

If it becomes law, SB 1062 would give Arizona business owners the right to refuse service to gays, lesbians or anyone else based on the business owners religious beliefs.

Broome tells CBS-5, this kind of bill is bad for business and would have a major negative impact on the state's economy.

We're told SB 1062 is already having an impact. With 4 companies, who were considering business expansion in the Valley, crossing Arizona off their test. And someone looking to invest 100-million in Arizona has put his deal on hold.

The governor is expecting to make a decision next week.
