Kinston man shot multiple times in home

KINSTON, N.C. - One man has been injured and another is wanted after a shooting in Kinston.

On Sunday, February 23, 2014 around 10:55 AM members of the Kinston Dept. of Public Safety Law Enforcement Division responded to a person shot call on West Highland Ave. in Kinston.  Upon arrival, officers found Sterling Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  The suspect, Jamell Howard, reportedly left the scene in blue Mitsubishi. A warrant has been issued for Jamell Howard for the charge of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury. 

Anyone with information on Howard is asked to call police. This incident is still under investigation.

Kinston Police tell 9 On Your Side a Kinston man was shot multiple times Sunday.

Sterling Smith, 26, was shot at his home, located on West Highland Avenue, at approximately 10:57 a.m. Sunday. Police believe Jamell Howard, and acquaintance of Smith, shot him.

Police have a warrant out for the arrest of Howard for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill/Inflicting Serious Injury.

Smith was taken to Vidant Medical Center where he's listed in fair condition.
