Miles College holds lecture, unveiling of Civil Rights Markers Monday

Posted: Updated:
A special unveiling and lecture was held to honor those who helped in the Civil Rights Movement in the Birmingham area.

Miles College in Fairfield held its first George French Jr. Lyceum Speakers Series presentation Monday on campus.

The event featured Congresswoman Terri Sewell.

Following the speeches, there was an unveiling of the Civil Rights Markers in Centennial Park, located in front of Brown Hall.

The markers remind all how Miles College students played a part in the early days of the Civil Rights Movement.

The French Lyceum Speakers Series was established to inspire and encourage students, through the spoken words of scholars.

The lectures also recognize people who’ve contributed to a better understanding of African-American life, history and culture.
