Laurel Police Search for Shooting Suspect

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL -- Police need your help finding the suspect from a weekend shooting.

Early Saturday morning, police responded to an apartment on Johnson Circle after a call of shots fired.  They found a victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to South Central Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Police are looking for Richard Ramsey.  He's a black male who is about 5'5" and weighs about 200 pounds.  His last known address is in south Laurel. Ramsey will be charged with possession of a firearm by an ex con and aggravated assault.

It's important for individuals to know that guns are not the answer to problems, according to LPD investigator Kim Stewart.

"Someone out of the group or an individual should have a level head, come to the police department, fill out a complaint and sign charges on that individual, not take matters into their own hands," Stewart said.

The investigation revealed that Ramsey does have several relatives who live out of town, so any leads will be followed.  Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 601-428-STOP (7867) or LPD at 601-425-4711.
