Families on Hilton Head will soon have the opportunity to own their home.
Habitat for Humanity just announced plans to build on the island.
The property off of Marshland road on Hilton Head is where 16 new homes will be built as part of "The Glen,"a Habitat for Humanity project. This is the first neighborhood on the island and has taken years to get underway. And for some this is an answer to their prayers.
"My family is so excited, my children too," said Hilda Solis.
Solis is a hard-working, mother of three, she's also one of the home buyers slated to move into "The Glen."
"This has been my dream for a long time, have my own house, I'm so so happy."
She's happy because for years she's been renting, and finally she'll have a place of her own, and she says her daughter's excited too.
"Oh she jump, she say 'Oh mom! My own room,' I say yes, god is good you know."
Habitat for Humanity Director, Pat Wirth says the need for this type of community on Hilton Head has grown. And though its taken years, its will be worth the wait.
"We'll be filling the need for folks that work hard, who want a simple, decent place to live, and a stable place to raise their children," said Wirth.
There's more good news, only 10 of the initial 16 houses are filled with families.
"10 of the houses are already set, so we'll still have six that we'll be looking for families for, we will be reopening the application process probably within the next six months."
As for Solis, she plans to pay it forward.
"I would like to continue to help building more houses for other people, yes this is my goal."
The official groundbreaking will be Tuesday.
