Cold And Rain Persists Across Eastern Carolina

Posted: Updated:

This Morning: A little light rain or drizzle will remain for the rest of the morning.  Temperatures will remain at or below freezing for almost all of eastern North Carolina except the immediate coast.  Therefore, icy roads will still be possible early this morning across the WNCT-TV 9 On Your Side viewing area.  Certainly exercise extreme caution if you have to drive this morning.

This Afternoon:  As temperatures slowly climb above freezing into the lower to middle 40s by the afternoon area, there will be a small chance of some light rain but we are predominantly cloudy.  Although everyone in the East may not get some rain, the better chances of those rain showers will be near the coast, mainly east of U.S. Highway 17.  Again, with temperatures climbing above freezing by this afternoon, the threat of additional ice will end.

Thursday and Friday: A very active southern branch of the jet stream may produce yet another coastal storm system for the late week.  This may be a big rain maker for eastern North Carolina.  However, there is still quite a bit of uncertainty of the ultimate track and intensity with this storm system. Stay with Storm Team 9 on-air, on-line with our video forecast at www.wnct.com/weather and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/stormteam9wnct) and our mobile app as we continue to track the storm and tweak the forecast as more details come in.

Storm Team 9 will keep you updated throughout this unsettled work week of weather.
