Savannah's century-old City Hall building says they are installing a metal detector inside the front door.
City spokesperson Brett Bell says local officials plan to take a trial run at screening visitors with a metal detector after some City Council members complained there's not enough security.
Bell says the Chatham County courthouse has loaned one of its metal detectors to City Hall for the time being. The mayor and council members will decide if it's a measure they want to adopt permanently.
Both the county and federal courthouses in Savannah screen visitors with metal detectors. The building where the Chatham County Commission meets does not.
