RALEIGH, N.C. -

Icy conditions sent drivers swerving off the roads across the Triangle on Monday night.

Accidents lined parts of Interstates 40, 440 and 540 after sleet and snow covered some roads.

A chain reaction crash closed several lanes along I-540 in North Raleigh. Authorities say a tractor-trailer swerved into a sedan that had come to a stop along the median in the eastbound lanes before 9 p.m..

The tractor-trailer ended up crossing the median and sliding into oncoming traffic. It happened between Buffalo and Louisburg roads.

The driver of the sedan got out of the car moments before the crash.

Three other vehicles also crashed. One Jeep hit a New Hope fire truck.  No one was injured.
