A woman was shot and killed after authorities say she tried to run over an officer in Duncan Tuesday morning. It happened near Highway 290 and Interstate 85.

It started when police responded to a disturbance call at nearby Value Place. When officers showed up a man ran away. He was later arrested.

When the officer came back to his patrol car, authorities tell us there was a woman inside who tried to run over the officer. The officer then shot and killed her.

She was identified Wednesday as Rebecca Lynn Oliver, 24, of Campobello.  The coroner's office says Oliver died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave as part of normal procedure. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting incident.

SLED officials tell us this is the 10th officer-involved shooting in South Carolina this year. That compares to the four that they investigated by this time in 2013.

The man who ran from the officer, 27-year-old John Allen Rockwood, is charged with failure to stop on command of an officer.  Additional charges are pending.
