GPD warning of potential property crimes ahead of ECU spring break

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Spring break for ECU students is just a few days away.

And that means Greenville police will be on the lookout for more burglars targeting empty houses near campus.

Police department spokeswoman Kristen Hunter says officers are handing out fliers to warn students of potential property crimes in their homes and cars.

If you're leaving town, she suggests double-checking your locks, leaving some lights on, closing blinds and hiding your valuables.

"And establishing a good relationship with your neighbor,” said Kristen Hunter, Greenville Police Dept.
“Obviously, we can't be everywhere at once, so if your neighbors can call us and tip us off to some suspicious behavior, there's more of a chance that we can actually catch the people in the act."

Police also suggest students not to advertise their spring break plans via social media, as you never know who's watching.
