Animal shelter's unique program

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Pitt County Animal Shelter started a unique program that requires pets to be spayed or neutered before they can go to a new home.

But since there's no vet on site, the shelter teamed up with Spay Today to perform the procedures.

Surgeries take place Monday thru Thursday. If someone adopts an animal on Thursday, Friday or during the weekend, the earliest they could take the animal home would be Monday.

Despite that wait, Spay Today employees say people are happy the program is in place.

"If they're adopted over the weekend we do the surgery on Monday. It's such a minimal wait time that it has not inhibited people from doing adoptions at all," said Marybeth Hobgood, Executive Director of Spay Today.

If you would like more information on Spay Today, including prices of surgeries, visit their website or call them at 252-321-8839.
