FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW)- The Florence County Sheriff's office responded to a deputy involved shooting Thursday morning, which is the 11th officer-involved shooting in the state to date this year.

The sheriff's office reports a deputy attempted a traffic stop on Lucas Street around 1:20 Thursday morning but the driver refused to stop their vehicle. That driver then led the deputy on a chase that went onto Clement Street through Ingram Street and ended at a home on North Dunbar Street.

According to FCSO officials, when the deputy got out of his vehicle, the driver attempted to run the deputy over. Officials say the deputy fired his duty weapon multiple times in self-defense.

The sheriff's office reports three people were in the car, two of them were taken to an area hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds. One of the suspects has since been released from the hospital and now in custody for drug charges. Police arrested the third person at the scene on drug charges as well and that person is in custody at the Florence County Detention Center.

According to a press release, Maurice Laquan Bostick, 27, of Florence, was charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine. Terrance Cochrane, 26, of Florence was also charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Crack Cocaine

Additional charges against one or more of the suspects are possible.

The Florence County Sheriff's now requests The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) investigate the incident.

South Carolina Highway Patrol will investigate the crash at the home on Dunbar Street.

The deputy has been placed on administrative leave with pay until further notice which is standard in these type of incidents.

Thom Berry, SLED spokesperson tells News13 an agent from their crime scene unit in Columbia to process the scene as well as SLED agents from regional Pee Dee office.

Last year there were seven officer involved shootings in the state, during same period, and 42 statewide during all of 2013.

Last year, Florence had three officer-involved shootings which involved the State Highway Patrol, Florence Police and the Sheriff's office.

Horry County had two with both involved Horry County Police.

Darlington had one with involved SLED.
