PICS: Oconee Co. Deputies Seize Illegal Moonshine Still

Posted: Updated:
OCONEE COUNTY, S.C. -

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office says they've seized an illegal liquor still outside of Westminster Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies say narcotics agents from the Sheriff's Office received information from a South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officer of a moonshine still in plain view as that agent was investigating a complaint.

The DNR officer says a large portion of the still was outside a storage building door with several mason jars filled with a clear liquid sitting next to a 55 gallon drum.

Deputies also found other jars of moonshine and ingredients used in the process of making moonshine.

Agents confiscated these items from the property after a consent to search: one still, assorted ingredients, two half gallon Ball Mason jars containing moonshine, 19 quart Ball Mason jars containing moonshine, two pieces of copper tubing, 1 hydrometer, and one bucket containing corn.

Deputies value the amount of moonshine seized at around $1,000.

Colby Edward Watts, 21, of Westminster was charged with unlawful manufacture, transfer, or possession of a distillery and mash or similar materials upon premises.
