Design phase underway for Greenville roundabout

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The design phase is underway for a roundabout in Greenville at the intersection of West Fifth, Tyson Street and 14th Avenue.

The Greenville Redevelopment Commission approved it Wednesday night as part of the master streetscape plan.

Putting a roundabout at this intersection has mixed opinions from those who live and work nearby.

Some folks 9 On Your Side spoke with are concerned that while it might look better, it will be more dangerous for drivers and pedestrians.

"It's not safe. And it will slow down traffic,” said Danuta Allen, Greenville resident. “And it's not safe for people who have to walk across the street."

Allen says she'd rather have a pedestrian cross walk installed with a "push-to-walk" feature.

The Redevelopment Commission says the roundabout will actually make traffic flow better.

The design phase is expected to be complete this year.
