Missing Maryland girl found in SC; father arrested

The Baltimore County Police Department in Maryland on Friday night canceled an amber alert for a missing child believed to be in North Carolina, Caitlyn Marie Virts.

She was found safe Friday night in Florence, South Carolina and her father was arrested. The Baltimore police had a warrant for her father, Timothy Howard Virts, charging him with the murder of her mother, 36-year-old Bobbie Jo Cortez.

Virts, an  11-year-old white female,  is approximately 5 feet   tall and 80 pounds. 

In an Amber Alert news release, the abductor is believed to be Timothy Virts.   Virts, 38, is a white male who 6 feet  3 and weighs 280 pounds.   He has brown hair and brown eyes.  

Authorities said the girl was taken from Dundalk, MD., and the abductor and child were believed to be in Garysburg N.C. on Thursday. Garysburg is a small town in the Eastern North Carolina county of Northampton and the town is near Weldon and not far from I-95. Garysburg is not far from the Virginia border.

Authorities were looking for a black 1999 Dodge  Durango with Maryland license tag number 5AJ4458. NBC Washington said the Durango is registered Cortez' husband, Daniel Williams Cotez.
