Elizabethton, Chilhowie girls move on to state championship games

JOHNSON CITY, TN - For two local high school girls basketball teams, the season extends for one more game, and it's a pretty big one.

The Elizabethton and Chilhowie girls both won Friday night and will now play for their respective state championship games.

For the Lady Cyclones, it was a three-point barrage that staked them to a huge lead before hanging on down the stretch for a 67-61 win over Westview. EHS led 40-25 at halftime, much of that coming from behind the arc in the Tennessee AA girls semi-finals.

For the most part, it was the tag team of the Marosites twins, Kayla and Kelci. The pair combined for 35 of the team's 67 points. This is the second straight year the Cyclones have ended the Lady Chargers' season. Last year it was in the state quarterfinals.

Elizabethton matches up with Fulton Saturday at 6:00 for the state championship.

In Virginia, it with Class A Chilhowie advancing to the title game. The Lady Warriors led from start to finish, beating Altavista 50-43. Chilhowie plays its championship game next Saturday, March 15 at VCU. They get the winner of Saturday's game between Honaker and Colonial Beach.
