GREENVILLE, N.C. - A local store owner gets national attention for providing healthy alternatives.

The popular Huffington Post picked up his story.
David Rizek owns Mark's Food Market in Greenville. He has for 6 years.

ECU students first contacted him, asking he provide fruit in his store.
The Pitt County Healthy Corner Stores Initiative got involved to help him with a fruit display cooler.

"People have, like, more choices you know,” said David Rizek, Mark’s Food Market. “Before people just had choices of hamburger, hot dog, or chips. Now they have a better choice that is all kinds of fruits."

Rizek says the move is working really well and is encouraging other store owners to put a fruit option in their stores as well.
