Posted: Updated:
The American Red Cross and WSLS 10 team up once again for this year's Celebration of Heroes.

We introduce you to this year's Military Hero.

His name is Eric McGuire, a 23-year-old Army Specialist from Franklin County.

On January 5-th 2012 Specialist McGuire was on a mission, his unit came under heavy fire from the Taliban, and someone in the vehicle he was supposed to be in that day was hit.

While shots were still being fired Specialist McGuire cleared a landing zone for a helicopter to touch down and carry out the wounded.

“I just wanted to push myself.  I wanted to see what I was made of, I wanted to see could I do it, could I do what not a lot of other people can do,” he explained.

Not only is Specialist McGuire named the Red Cross Military Hero, but he also won an Army Commendation Award for his efforts saving a fellow soldier that day.
