BOTETOURT COUNTY -

It's one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Virginia, and Delegate Terry Austin (R-Botetourt County) said one of his priorities is getting the money to improve Interstate 81 running through Buchanan.

Austin said he spoke with members of the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) and VDOT to make the project a reality.

Since safety is a priority for the CTB, which chooses what projects get paid for, he's confident improvements will be made.

"I think it can happen pretty quickly," Austin said. "I think if it becomes a priority to the CTB they can change that direction and it can happen pretty quickly, and I think it will."

A WSLS 10 investigation revealed this seven mile stretch is the most dangerous part of I-81 in Virginia.

The CTB will hold a public meeting this spring before deciding which projects to pay for.
