USC student paralyzed by stray bullet, gets to throw out the first pitch at Gamecocks game

COLUMBIA, SC - Martha Childress, The University of South Carolina student paralyzed after being shot by a stray bullet in Columbia's Five Points district last year, was honored at the USC baseball game Tuesday.

Chad Holbrook tweeted her asking if she would like to throw out the first pitch. Her 16-year-old brother helped her practice and she also received a jersey with the number seven and her last name. The team donated $1,000 towards her foundation as well.

Childress, 18, says she plans to return in the fall to USC. She's been taking two online classes.

In October she was struck with a stray bullet while waiting for a cab. She underwent two months of physical therapy at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.
