Leaders discuss important issues at Greenville Community Summit

Posted: Updated:
Thursday morning began a day long community forum where community leaders and citizens are discussing important issues facing Greenville.

The ‘Greenville Community Summit’ began early at the ‘400 St. Andrews’ conference center. It kicked off with a discussion on crime and public safety. Panelist included Pitt District Attorney Kimberly Robb, Councilwoman Kandi Smith, GPD Focused Deterrence Coordinator Sgt. Joe Friday, and Sheriff Neil Elks. Local judges also attended and joined in the conversations about preventing crime in Pitt County.

Citizens were able to voice their concerns in the forum as well. Phil Bullock asked the panel about how repeat DWI offenders cases are continually being continued in the court system. Local judge Brian Desotto was able to join the conversation from the crowd and announced that he and several new Pitt County Judges will no longer be continuing repeat DWI offender cases.

Bullock was appreciative of the forum saying “I’m very interested in what is going on in the community and when I heard about the forum and the agenda I said this is a good thing and we need to be involved in it.”

The forum runs throughout the day and is being hosted by local radio station.
