Free kidney screenings held in Greenville

Posted: Updated:
The clinic at the Joy Community Building hosted a free kidney screening Thursday.

Vidant Medical Center partnered with the Brody School of Medicine to sponsor a free kidney screening for the Greenville area.

They are hoping to help community members who are at risk of kidney disease and hope to help keep individuals from going on dialysis.

The screenings are going on until 2pm Thursday. Vidant says the screenings are designed for those at risk: anyone 18 years and older with high blood pressure, diabetes or a family history of kidney disease. It is designed to raise awareness about kidney disease among high-risk individuals and provide free testing and educational information so that kidney disease and its complications can be prevented or delayed.

Maria Locklear with Vidant Medical Center says “Diabetes and hypertension are the leading causes of kidney failure, and we are out trying to educate the community to help prevent them from becoming dialysis patients.”

Anyone interested in attending should schedule an appointment by contacting Chesna McNeil at 252-847-4621.
