NC House candidate files complaint against Moffitt

ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

A North Carolina House candidate has filed a formal complaint alleging the Republican incumbent he's challenging offered him a state job in exchange for pulling out of the race.

Democrat Brian Turner gave the complaint Friday to the State Board of Elections, which will look into the matter involving Rep. Tim Moffitt of Asheville.

Turner accuses Moffitt of telling him last month he'd help Turner get a job leading the University of North Carolina Television network if he would withdraw before the filing deadline. Turner stayed in the race.

Moffitt didn't immediately return a phone call Friday but earlier strongly denied suggesting such a deal.

Moffitt said he asked Turner not to run and told him a challenge would make it harder for Moffitt to be elected speaker in 2015.
