Two football players were involved in a fight at Jackson High School Tuesday afternoon.

"It escalated to the point where one of the boys brought a chair from the outside of the building and the other one retaliated by going to find a 2x4 that contained screws," said Richard Harvey with the Jackson Police Department.

That's when the 16-year-old took the board, slamming it against a 17-year-old classmate's head. The injuries at first seemed severe enough to rush him to USA Medical Center in Mobile.
"We thought it was a very serious injury and the decision was made with him being hit in the head to send the student to Mobile and we're very fortunate that it was a mild concussion it was unfortunate for the incident but very fortunate that it was not a serious injury," said the school's principal.

The principal says the fight broke out near the field house Tuesday. Both students are on the school's football team.
"Right now they're at home. As we get all the facts we'll have a meeting with myself and the parents and we'll decide what kind of disciplinary action will happen. There definetely will be a suspension for the students," police say.

There's no word on if the students will be removed from the school's football team, yet.
The suspect was arrested and charged with second degree assault.
