One local animal will have another shot at life thanks to the care of a local couple and their friends, who have banded together to help save a neglected dog that was found on the side of the road in Telford Saturday.

Donna Powers was driving on a back road in the Telford area around 10 a.m., when she reportedly spotted what appeared to be trash on the side of the road.

Powers’ boyfriend, J.C. Harrison, spoke with News Channel 11 Thursday and said his girlfriend almost ran it over, but suddenly realized it was a dog and stopped to help the animal.

The dog reportedly had three grocery bags worth of matted fur on its body when it was found by Powers and was immediately given food and water.

Powers and Harrison then contacted a fellow animal advocate and rescuer, Ali Fleming, who helped shave the matted fur from the animal.

The dog is believed to be a 2-year-old, gray, female poodle, and was reported to be doing well Thursday morning.

Harrison said the dog will receive further treatment at an animal rescue organization in New England, where she will be spayed and will undergo extensive therapy.
