Wendy Fisher Killers Sentenced to Long Prison Terms

Posted: Updated:
Trayon Washington gets a life sentence for shooting Wendy Fisher to death.  Judge Michael Youngpeter called the crime senseless and imposed the maximum sentence.   Members of the fisher family feel their daughter finally gets justice.

“Technically it is the end but no, it never ends for us, it'll never end for us but it is the end today,” says Fisher’s mother Carol.  Washington's family left the courtroom angry--some in tears--in a courtroom outburst Washington's mother told the judge the justice system was broken.

“They did not have enough evidence to convict anyone of this murder, that was unfair,” says Charlene Washington.  The life sentence was something Washington was prepared for.

“All of the tension that surrounded it I’m not surprised,” says Washington’s lawyer Art Powell.  The driver Pat Brown gets a lesser sentence of 30 years to be served concurrently with a prior robbery conviction.

His family says they'll keep praying.

“That's what they say 30 years, we go to church, so He got the last say, that's what we're believing in,” says Pat Brown’s brother Deandre Brown.  The shooting happened on Racine avenue less than two years ago. Officials were able to get arrests, trials and convictions in less time than other high profile murder cases.

“I'm very happy for the sentence with Trayon, I feel justice has been served a little disappointed with the sentence in Pat Brown was hoping for a stronger sentence for him,” says Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Wright.
